I saw this coffee/end table listed for free on Craigslist. It's too far away for me to even consider getting it, however, I wondered what you would do to rescue it if it was in your possession. It's missing all the glass, so it's only a wood frame basically.
Leave your ideas for how you could re-do it, fill in the spaces, etc. to make this a functioning table in the comments below.
If you could find containers the size of the openings, you could use it as a planter! Would be an interesting outdoor piece alongside a great looking chair. Of course, it wouldn't be a functioning table anymore. But I think it would look neat in a garden sitting area as a planter. Hmmm....now I'm thinking I would love to have one of these for my backyard!

I would cut the legs down, paint it, hang it on the wall and craft it into a type of shadowbox for little found treasures and trinkets. Or maybe for my off beat action figures.

ReplyDeleteTo just use it immediately as a coffee table, I'd have a piece of glass cut the size of the whole table (maybe put some bumpers in each corner to keep it from slipping). Then the surface is also completely level. You could also adhere a piece of plywood to the underside and then in each opening, have a place to display photos, maps or other souvenir items between the wood and the glass top.
ReplyDeleteGiven the space it's in, I'd vote for slate tile. Get the tile guy to cut it the right size, four pieces, or use a stone-cutting blade on your circular saw. The stone will need to be sealed against spills but it'll be gorgeous and last forever.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking maybe a mosaic covered with glass to protect it. Or you could paint inserts with different patterns for the 4 squares and then sealed to protect it.

ReplyDeleteWe had a table missing glass, and I just cut the legs off and made it to where it was just the table top frame. It's currently hanging on our wall as a conversation piece :)
