What Would You Do Wednesday - Vintage Shutters

I bought this shutter at the Apron Chicks Barn Sale in May, and I'm planning to hang it on the wall. But now I need your help. On this What Would You Do (WWYD) Wednesday, I'm wondering what you would do with it and I'm looking for suggestions.
At a yard sale, I bought this berry garland, so I'm thinking I'll use it on here somehow. But now it's your turn. What would you do to turn this into a wall decoration?
Leave your WWYD comments below, and who knows? Maybe I'll use your idea!

  1. Ok, maybe I'll be first? I read this on Wednesday and wanted to come back today to see people's suggestions....but there aren't any!
I would....use it as a message board. I'd hot glue some funky clips to it so you could clip pictures or notes on it. But it looks too new right now. I'd distress it a little first. I'm not sure what to do with the berry garland either, unless it matches your decor pretty well. Then you could drape it across the top somehow.

  2. I would add a chalkboard behind it. Frame the chalkboard and hinge the shutters on each side so they can be opened or closed OR you could leave the shutters open and hang your berry garland across the top of the shutters flowing across the chalkboard. Hey, I have these supplies...I think I'll make it myself. Thanks for the brainstorming session. lol

  4. I would build a frame around a chalkboard (make your own chalkboard) and hinge these shutters to the frame so they can be opened or closed. If left open, the berry garland could be hung from shutter to shutter draped across the chalkboard.

  5. Great ideas! I love the clips idea, Jessica. And adding a chalkboard behind is a great idea too Lynn. I could even combine those two ideas! I'll post more ideas on a follow-up post (see July 12).

  6. I took two I had purchased at a yard sale and put a piece of fence board along the bottoms to make a shelf. They hang in my kitchen on the wall. One has teas on the shelf and cards and pictures hanging in the slats. The other holds whatever seasonal trinkets I want to display. I love the chalkboard idea...I do have a few more...perhaps this summer!

  7. I love the chalkboard idea. I have two shutters from a yard sale I hung in my kitchen. I had my hubby cut a shelves to attach to the bottom from old fencing. I display cards and pictures. I have a few more. I think I might try the chalkboard next!
